Group Numbers and Eating
Please help us to prepare for your stay by advising us of
how many people will be in your group and if you will require
breakfasts or packed lunches. Our local pub serves food but
we strongly advise people to book meals in advance as the
pub can be very busy (tel: 01228 576141).
Roman Wall Lodges
are close to the Carlisle western bypass (approx. 10 minute
drive). The bypass connects directly to the M6 (junction 44)
making our site within easy reach of the motorway (15 mins
drive) but well, placed away from noise and traffic.
Our campsite is located between the villages of Beaumont
and Monkhill – approximately 4 miles from Carlisle and
9 miles from Bowness on Solway. Both the Hadrian’s
Wall Path and Sustrans Cycle Route 72
are 400 yards from our site. The Drovers Rest pub and restaurant
at Monkhill is 300 yards.
The best way to get to our site is to drive straight through
the village of Kirkandrews without turning right to Beaumont.
You will then reach Monkhill and drive past the Drovers Rest
pub. Turn right at the crossroads (chapel on right and signpost
Please note that there is no street lighting between villages
so it is always easier to find us in daylight - or ask for
directions at our local pub!

There are excellent road and rail links to Carlisle. The
93 bus from Carlisle Bus Station goes right past our site
and will stop at the entrance on request. This is a limited
service so please see 93
bus timetable and route information. This bus also goes
to the start/finish of the Hadrian’s Wall trail to Bowness
on Solway. The Hadrian’s Wall bus (AD122) and regular
trains go from Carlisle to Newcastle and makes various stops
along Hadrian’s Wall.
